25 Encouraging Scripture Verses for Mother’s Day

Washing InstructionsThe origin of Mother’s Day goes back to ancient festivals celebrated by the Greek and Romans. However, the roots of Mother’s Day history can be traced to the UK where a Mothering Sunday was celebrated some time before the day was celebrated in the U.S. and Canada. Today Mother’s Day is celebrated worldwide (though on different dates) and millions of people across the globe take the day as an opportunity to honour their mothers.  Share these scripture verses with your Mom and let her know how much you appreciate the fact that she has tried to “raise you up in the way you should go”.

Philippians: 1:3  “I thank my God every time I remember you.”

Philippians 4:4-8  “ Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

1 Peter 4:8  “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-7  “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

Titus 2:3-5  “Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.”

Ephesians 6:1-3  “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

Proverbs 23:22-25  “Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.  Buy the truth and do not sell it— wisdom, instruction and insight as well.  The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.  May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!”

1 Timothy 5:1-2  “Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.”

Proverbs 14:1  “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”

Proverbs 19:14  “Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.”

Proverbs 31:10-31- Hymn to a Good Wife (The Message)

A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds.

Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it.

Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long.

She shops around for the best yarns and cottons, and enjoys knitting and sewing.

She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places and brings back exotic surprises.

She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day.

She looks over a field and buys it, then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden.

First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.

She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.

She’s skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking.

She’s quick to assist anyone in need, reaches out to help the poor.

She doesn’t worry about her family when it snows; their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.

She makes her own clothing, and dresses in colorful linens and silks.

Her husband is greatly respected when he deliberates with the city fathers.

She designs gowns and sells them, brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.

Her clothes are well-made and elegant, and she always faces tomorrow with a smile.

When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.

She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive.

Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise: “Many women have done wonderful things, but you’ve outclassed them all!”

Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.

Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises!

    shared one of your verses today, I have been a mother since I was 24 and have been blessed with three beautiful children. i appreciate the study you have done. I am a grandmother to 9 beautiful children and pray always that each will find and keep Gods word. Janette Duty
