It is Written – A Journey Through the New Testament (5)

I have worked with youth as a teacher and in my church most of my adult life.  It has been such a privilege for me to walk alongside many of these young people over the years.  I have watched many of them grow up having first rocked them in the nursery, then later teaching them at VBS, and then partnering with others to see them through their teen and young adult lives.  Many of them call me “Mama Dove” and through these past few years I have attended many of their weddings and then had the privilege of rocking their babies.  I am just one of many adults in our church and at my school, who have been called to work specifically with teenagers, and truly I gain more blessing from them than they could ever gain from me.

I challenge you, as you read through these scriptures, to commit yourself to pray for and spend time with a child, youth or young adult at your church.  “For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required.” — Luke 12:48  Pour yourself out for one of them, you’ll be glad you did!

Colossians 2:14. “It is written” – all my sins and debt was paid in full at the cross.

Colossians 3:3. “It is written” – I have died, and my life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:10. “It is written” – I have put on the new self.

1 Thessalonians 1:10. “It is written” – I am delivered from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 2:12. “It is written” – I am called into His own kingdom and glory.

1 Thessalonians 4:9. “It is written” – I am taught by God to love others.

1 Thessalonians 4:17. “It is written” – I will meet the Lord in the air and be with Him forever.

1 Thessalonians 5:9. “It is written” – I will obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:10. “It is written” – whether I live or die, I will live with Him.

1 Thessalonians 5:24. “It is written” – faithful as He who calls you, and He will also bring it to pass.

2 Thessalonians 2:13. “It is written” – I am beloved by the Lord. God has chosen me from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the spirit and faith in the truth.

2 Thessalonians 3:3. “It is written” – the Lord will strengthen and protect me from the evil one.

1 Timothy 6:12. “It is written” – I have been called to eternal life.

2 Timothy 1:7. “It is written” – for God has not given me a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:9. “It is written” – the Lord has saved me and called me with a holy calling, not according to my works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted me in Christ Jesus for all eternity.

2 Timothy 1:12. “It is written” – I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.

2 Timothy 1:14. “It is written” – the Holy Spirit dwells in me.

2 Timothy 4:8. “It is written” – the Lord has laid up for me the crown of righteousness.

Titus 2:14. “It is written” – He has redeemed me from every lawless deed and purified me for His own possession.

Titus 3:6. “It is written” – the Holy Spirit has been poured out upon me richly through Jesus Christ, my Savior.

Titus 3:7. “It is written” – I have been justified by His grace and made an heir having the hope of eternal life.

Philemon 1:6. “It is written” – the knowledge of every good thing is in me.

Hebrews 1:14. “It is written” – Angels have been sent to minister to me.

Hebrews 3:1. “It is written” – I am slowly, a partaker of a heavenly calling, and Jesus is the apostle and high priest whom I confess.

Hebrews 3:6. “It is written” – I am the house of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 3:14. “It is written” – I have become a partaker of Christ.

Hebrews 4:3. “It is written” – I have entered into His rest.

Hebrews 4:10. “It is written” – as God has rested from his work, I too will rest from my works.

Hebrews 4:14. “It is written” – I have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens.

Hebrews 4:15. “It is written” – I have a high priest who can sympathize with my weaknesses.

Hebrews 7:25. “It is written” – I am saved forever, Christ ever lives to make intercession for me.

Hebrews 10:10. “It is written” – I have been made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Hebrews 10:21. “It is written” – I have a great high priest over the house of God.

Hebrews 10:22. “It is written” – my heart has been sprinkled clean from a guilty conscience and my body washed with pure water.

Hebrews 12:1. “It is written” – I have a great cloud of witnesses surrounding me.

Hebrews 12:10. “It is written” – God disciplines me for my good that I may share His Holiness.

Hebrews 12:28. “It is written” – I have received a kingdom which cannot be shaken.

Hebrews 13:5. “It is written” – God will never desert me nor forsake me.

Hebrews 13:12. “It is written” – I am made holy through Jesus’ own blood.

It is Written – A Journey Through the New Testament (4)

carolersAs I stated on Week 1, Christmas is often a time to be “frazzled”.  I have experienced the crush of mall shoppers, bustling by me to find that perfect gift for that special someone.  A recent poll indicated that the average person will spend close to $1500.00 this Christmas!  That’s a lot of wrapping up of gifts!

We all have someone that it is especially hard to find that “perfect” gift for.  My husband is one of the most difficult people to shop for.  He doesn’t really need anything, and he has a shop full of every known power tool known to man, so giving him the latest wrench is redundant at best.  The awesome thing about my husband is that he is thankful for everything!  If the kids buy him a tacky tie from the dollar store, he’ll smile and laugh and his heart will swell because his kids bought him a gift…any kind of gift.  His greatest joy at Christmas is having his family around him, his adult children and grandbabies curled up with him on the couch on Christmas Eve while he reads the Christmas Story.  My husband would rather lavish his love on the ones he loves most dear, than focus on what he’ll get as a gift for Christmas.

God’s greatest gift to us was His Son.  We can never repay Him for that Gift.  It is freely given and must be freely received.  As you read today’s scripture, ponder on how much the Father “spent” on our behalf.

Ephesians 1:4a. “It is written” – I am chosen in Him.

Ephesians 1:4b. “It is written” –  I am holy and blameless in His sight.

Ephesians 1:5. “It is written” – I am adopted as His son through Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:6. “It is written” – I am accepted in the Beloved.

Ephesians 1:7. “It is written” – I have redemption and forgiveness.

Ephesians 1:11. “It is written” – I have obtained an inheritance.

Ephesians 1:13. “It is written” –  I have been sealed in Him with the promised Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 2:4. “It is written” –  I am loved by God.

Ephesians 2:5. “It is written” – I have been made alive together with Christ.

Ephesians 2:6. “It is written” –  I have been raised up with Him and seated with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:10. “It is written” – I am His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works.

Ephesians 2:13. “It is written” – I have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Ephesians 2:14. “It is written” – Christ is my peace.

Ephesians 2:18. “It is written” – through Christ, I have access in one spirit to the Father.

Ephesians 2:19. “It is written” – I am no longer a stranger and alien, but I am a fellow citizen with the saints.

Ephesians 3:6. “It is written” – I am a fellow heir and fellow member of the body.

Ephesians 3:6b. “It is written” – I am a fellow partaker of the promise of Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 3:12. “It is written” – in Christ and through faith in Him, we have boldness and confident access to God.

Ephesians 3:16 “It is written” – I am strengthened with power through His Spirit in my inner man.

Ephesians 3:17. “It is written” – I am rooted and grounded in Christ’s love.

Ephesians 4:7. “It is written” – I have been given grace.

Ephesians 4:24. “It is written” – I have a new self which, in the likeness of God, has been created in righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4:32. “It is written” – I have been forgiven.

Philippians 1:6. “It is written” – I am confident that He who began a good work in me will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:11. “It is written” – I am filled with the fruit of righteousness through Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:21. “It is written” – for me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Philippians 2:13. “It is written” – God is at work within me both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Philippians 2:15. “It is written” – I shine like a star in the universe.

Philippians 4:7. “It is written” – the peace of God guards my heart and mind.

Philippians 4:13. “It is written” – I can do all things through Him Who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:19. “It is written” – God shall supply all my needs, according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 1:12. “It is written” – the Father has qualified me to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

Colossians 1:13. “It is written” – I have been delivered from the dominion of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of his beloved Son.

Colossians 1:14. “It is written” – I have redemption and forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:27. “It is written” – Christ is in me.

Colossians 2:10. “It is written” – in Christ, I have been made complete.

Colossians 2:12a. “It is written” – I have been buried with Him in baptism.

It is Written – A Journey Through the New Testament (3)

jesusisthereasonI saw a child the other day at church say, “God loves me soooo much” and then she spread out her arms side to side as wide and as far as she was able to indicate that as far as her little fingers tried to stretch, God loved her just a little bit more than that. 

She gets it!  God does love us “soooooo much”!  I hope you (as an adult) understands that too, after you read these verses as we continue our journey through the New Testament.

1 Corinthians 3:9. “It is written” – I am God’s fellow worker, I am God’s field, and I am God’s building.

1 Corinthians 3:16. “It is written” – I am a temple of God in which the Spirit of God indwells.
