A Cheerful Giver
2 Corinthians 9:7
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Christmas time is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We need to remember that Jesus gave up a lot to come down to save us. He was a king in heaven, but he came to us as a human, in a humble way. He could’ve been born into a rich, noble family; in a nice home with a comfortable bed, but he wasn’t born into a rich family. Instead, his earthly father was a carpenter. Jesus didn’t even have a crib or a bed to sleep on; he lay in a manger with animals!
When Jesus was born, gifts from the wise men were given to him. But Jesus has given us the greatest gift of all, eternal life. Because he stepped down from heaven, we have hope.
During this Christmas season, we should give, not because we need to, but because we want to. We need to give with a cheerful heart.
Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank you for sending Jesus to earth. Please help me to give with a cheerful heart.
In Jesus name,
Amen.

The scent of Christmas was in the air. Carols were loudly playing on the living room TV and colorful lights were hung up all around the house. I sat happily next to my two siblings, in front of the towering Christmas tree which held ornaments that my mother had received at ornament exchanges with her small groups. My heart was thumping wildly in my chest, threatening to burst out of my thin frame. Christmas only happened once a year and it was always the most exciting time. I always got to see relatives I didn’t see very much, I got to drink eggnog and make snowmen. But to me, the best part of Christmas was tearing the sparkly wrapping paper from boxes which held presents for me.
